Aim and Concept
The Information Technology Center (ITC) at Nara Institute of Science and Technology one of the most advanced information processing environments in Japan. We believe that an information processing environment with a high degree of flexibility will strongly support a high level of creativity for each research activity. The Information Technology Center has three principles which come from dynamism of natural excursion :"Highly Advanced Research Platform" , "High Mobility" , and "Cooperative Distributed Processing Environment". An extremery high level of information processing resource sharing has become possible by implementing these principles on our original integrated information processing environment "MANDARA system". The "MANDARA system" strongly supports research and educational activities, and helps our institute create a new generation of science and technology.
Highly Advanced Research Platform
At our institute, many advanced research and educational activities are carried out in information science, biological science, and material science. Active computer use and information exchange through networks are necessary for highly advanced and original research and education. The Information Technology Center provids an advanced information processing environment that is based on the most advanced information processing facilities required for research and education activities.
High Mobility
The environment provided by ITC lets every faculty member or student use necessary information processing facilities any place within the institute. That is, every user in our environment can process information anytime and anywhere. In order to accomplish such an environment, account management, file server administration, network operation, and other various works are centerlized to ITC.
Cooperative Distributed Processing Environment
The distributed processing environment provided by ITC is based on a high-speed network. Personal workstations on individual desks are used for everyday research and educational activities.Special purpose facilities such as image date processing or high-speed calculation are always accessible through the networks. We are also developing network applocations which enable smooth use of conputes through the network to further the use of our cooperative-style distributed environment.
